ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday stopped trial court from recording statement of witnesses in PTI founder and Bushra Bibi in Nikah during Iddat case.

Chief Justice of the IHC Justice Aamer Farooq conducted hearing of a petition filed against PTI founder and Bushra Bibi's Nikah during Iddat. Salman Akram Raja appeared in court on behalf of former prime minister and Bushra Bibi.

Raja, giving arguments in the case, said the whole district judiciary was busy in Adiala Jail. "Today, they will record statements of the witnesses," he told court. Justice Aamer Farooq said the court would stop them from recording statements, but it should be told about the case first.

The court then asked how much period the Iddat lasts. Raja replied even if they suppose petitioner's statement was true, the Nikah was solemnized after 48 days.

He said Iddat usually last for 90 days, but Maulana Taqi Usmani had given an explanation over that. There was also a verdict issued by the apex court on Iddat period.

The court said even if the Nikah was solemnized during Iddat period, it could be regularized. If Nikah was not solemnized as per regular norms, what crime had been committed, asked the IHC CJ.

Later, the court stopped trial court from recording statement of witnesses in Nikah during Iddat case.
